No boat needed

Tennessee fishing piers you can walk onto

A built pier gets you over deep water with no boat and no wading, which makes it the easiest place in the state to take a child fishing.

Common questions

Questions about Tennessee fishing access

How many public fishing access points are there in Tennessee?

1,002 on this site, from TWRA’s own public access database, spread across 90 of the state’s 95 counties. They cover boat ramps, fishing piers, paddle launches, marinas and designated bank fishing sites.

Are Tennessee boat ramps free?

Most TWRA and TVA ramps are. Corps of Engineers sites, state park ramps and marinas often charge to launch or to park, and a few are members only. Every listing on this site shows the owner, which is the best guide to whether you will be asked for money.

Can I fish from the bank at a boat ramp?

Usually, though you should keep clear of the ramp itself and the courtesy dock when boats are moving. Plenty of the sites listed here are bank access points with no ramp at all, and those are marked as such.

Do I need a licence at a public access point?

Yes, from age 13, anywhere in Tennessee. A trout supplemental is needed on top of most licences if you intend to keep trout. Free Fishing Day in early June is the one exception.

How current is the access data?

It was pulled from TWRA records in 2026. Ramps close for repairs and for low water without notice, so treat a listing as a starting point and ring ahead before a long drive.
