Getting a boat on the water in Dickson County

Montgomery Bell State Park rents canoes, kayaks and paddle boats on Acorn Lake seasonally through a concession operator; gas motors are not permitted on the park lakes. The Harpeth River is the county’s headline paddling water, the Narrows of the Harpeth is one of the most popular canoe runs in Middle Tennessee, with a short portage across the neck making a compact loop.

The Piney River is a quieter, more technical float through Dickson into Hickman County, with commercial canoe rental operating from Pinewood/Nunnelly on the Hickman County end. The Cumberland is navigation water with barge traffic, unsuitable for casual paddling.

Montgomery Bell State Park lakes are electric-motor or paddle only, no gas motors. The Harpeth River carries statewide stream bass regulations; confirm whether any scenic-river section has a special restriction.
